Army world class athletes program

Our members train and compete throughout the year — and aim for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. WCAP Soldiers come from the Active, Reserve and National Guard components, and are selected for their ability to perform at the highest level of their sports. Meanwhile, they keep current with Army requirements, attend military schools and stay competitive with their uniformed counterparts.

WCAP Soldiers also conduct essential outreach activities. They hold clinics, speak to high school and college audiences, talk with athletic teams and make appearances in support of Army recruiting stations. Especially during high-profile competitions like the Olympics, WCAP Soldiers provide positive role models, motivate their fellow Soldiers and give Americans another reason to get excited about the Army. WCAP has established training centers throughout the country specializing in boxing, wrestling, modern pentathlon, and more.

Depending on their sport, athletes are assigned a training location, usually near a college or sports club known for its success in preparing athletes for major competitions. Beyond athletic commitments, WCAP Soldiers inspire the public and their fellow Soldiers through a variety of outreach activities.

They speak to high school and college students, hold clinics, mentor young athletes, and make appearances in support of Army recruiting efforts. All prospective athletes will be admitted into the program at least three years before Olympic trials begin. For more information or to start an application, visit the U.
