Any ideas? Sunday, March 23, PM. Rich, I've got the same problem. Monday, March 24, AM. Mike, Thanks. Monday, March 24, PM. Rich, I spoke with a Microsoft contractor again tonight, but nothing was solved. Thursday, March 27, AM. Mike, I've just started an email dialog with MS Support was well. No response yet. Upon restart, I get the windows logo, followed by loading windows can't remember the exact text, but it's the normal boot messages I see The screen goes blank for about 30 seconds - just like a normal reboot The then the BSOD.

Thursday, March 27, PM. End quote. They also suggested downloading the standalone patch which I had already done. Friday, March 28, PM. Monday, March 31, PM. Mike, I was in that same situation, but I did find some way to make the "Startup Repair" option actually rollback to before the SP1 patch started.

Any update on this? Tuesday, April 22, PM. Hi all, I have this error too. Same result failed install, STOP c etc. After five unsuccesful attempts with various permutations of service pack Windows update and full download , I am VERY grateful for having Acronis image restores to hand.

I have had to disable Windows update as SP1 is being forced at the moment. In a support email below from Microsoft, they suggest installing SP1 in Safe mode. I have yet to try this as I can't afford more time out of my working week investigating MS bugs for them. Email follows. Dear Mr. Things to remember before the installation of the windows vista SP1 update are: 1 Backup all the important data on your computer.

Thursday, April 24, AM. I am in the process of trying to roll back to the last restore point after I got the same error. At the very least, your suggestion got me past the original error and got a new one. If I do get restored it's been doing the rollback for over an hour now I think I'll take Rowland's suggestion on his blog to wait for SP2 since none of Microsoft's suggestions as to how to get SP1 installed worked for him according to his last blog post.

I'll monitor this forum and I hope that anyone who finds out an absolutely fool proof way to upgrade? Thursday, May 1, PM. Having tried and failed with the first Microsoft support recommendation, I received another very detailed guide from them. It includes some interesting points such as:- Disabling the cryptographic service Fiddling with the software distribution folders.

The full details can be found on my blog. I don't have time to try these out at the moment but it may help anyone who is about to abandon all hope before reaching for a fresh installation disk Regards, Rowland. Rowland, Thanks again. My attempt to restore my system back to the last restore point failed.

I'll keep it till upgrading to Windows 7, thank you. Per page: 15 30 Date Posted: 12 Feb, am. Posts: 5. Discussions Rules and Guidelines. The first thing I would do is confirm that your Vista SP2 OS is fully patched to the end of extended support Apr just in case you have an older version of kernel Please help me on this zenosincks. Here is a direct download to the drivers: Click Here. Tried F8 to boot into the safe mode, unsuccessful, same error.

Tried all the options of the F8 key other than normal boot, same error with infinite reboot loop problem. I tried to format the c: drive and have tried to install the factory boot DVD Rom supplied by the Acer along with the laptop, no success, same error.

Although the installation goes successful, yet the problem remains the same after the installation. I have done 3 factory restore of the laptop 3 times without any success.
