System center essentials 2010 installation

In this two part post I am going to walk through installing SCE and some basic configuration. First thing we need to do is install SQL server. SCE has a database on the backend and you need somewhere to store this. I will walk you through installing this on the same server you will install SCE on. There are three more screens accept the defaults and click next. SCE has some prerequisites. Make sure these are installed on the server before you install SCE SCE uses this account to access managed servers and clients on your network.

It is recommended that you create a dedicated account that has domain administrator privileges. The install will complete and SCE will open with the option to configure it. We will cover this in the next post. Stay tuned for basic configuration of Microsoft System Center Essentials in post part 2……………………………..

System Center Essentials Essentials provides small and medium sized businesses with a unified console for managing both physical and virtual computers. Posts prior to January 19th refer to the Beta and posts prior to April 20th refer to the RC.

I allowed the installer to install and configure both prerequisites. For the record, I already read through this thread which appears to be experiencing the exact same problems that I am, except I never ran SCSM on the DC before, and running the cleanup tool as suggested didn't help anything. Here's the install log containing the errors I saw. Pasted below are the lines containing "failed. The last two appear to just be content strings, but they're included for completeness.

Can anyone help me out with this? There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there, other than the thread I link here. Some more random googling brought me to this thread which suggests that if you don't allow the installer to use windows update for updates, the update will succeed. Unfortunately, since each of these attempts was costing me about 90 minutes, I inadvisably forsook the scientific method, and changed three things at once:. Not sure which of these things was the fix, but one or all of them allowed me to finish the installation.

Thank you for lettings us know the troubleshooting process, I will help others in the forums to resolve similar issues. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Microsoft Online Services TechCenter.
